From the Mayor’s Facebook page: Folks, I have it on very good authority that Freddie will not see his shadow tomorrow. It’s official tomorrow- but-Spring has sprung! Go Freddie!

Buck-Onion –Buckhannon Mayor, David W. McCauley, hijacked French Creek Freddie, and he has, himself, given a forecast of an early spring.

Just hours before the prognosticating rodent was set to give his famous forecast from the West Virginia Wildlife Center in French Creek, WV, McCauley, apparently, abducted the critter and received early information.

Details are sketchy at press time. However, in a private Facebook post, the Mayor shared photographs of himself with the furry French Creeker. He shunned questioned about why the rodent was blind folded… and cardboard. However, he proclaimed that French Creek’s famous resident had not seen his shadow. Therefore, there would be an early spring. Councilwoman, Mary Albaugh, applauded the mayor’s behavior.

The photos were taken following a snow storm and near-record-breaking-low temperatures in Upshur County, WV. It is unknown if the severe weather factored into McCauley’s behavior.

City, County and State Police were unavailable for comment at press time.
